Weekly Homework
Homework will be sent home in each Monday and is intended to help further the knowledge your student has learned in school. These assignments are meant to supplement our curriculum, and should not require a lot of time to complete, as we already work very hard during our school day! A spelling assignment to practice the weekly words and one or two math assignments will be given. Handwriting practice will be given until we begin spelling in early October. Also, work that is not completed at school due to poor use of time will be sent home to be completed.
Please return the folder when your child has completed ALL of the assignments, rather than returning one assignment at a time. The folder is due back by Friday of that same week. Students will receive a sticker for each completed assignment, on an individual chart. When the chart is full, students may choose a prize from the prize box.
Inside your students homework folder you will find a sheet to sign. Please be sure to do so as your student will not receive their stickers if you do not sign and date their folders.

Read at Home Calendars
Beginning in October and each month through April, first graders will be given a monthly calendar on which to record minutes spent reading at home. It is expected that each student read 180 minutes or more for each month unless otherwise told. This assignment is an essential part of their homework grade, and a prize/pizza certificate will be given when their monthly minutes are completed. Further information regarding the expected minutes and due dates for each month will be on each individual calendar. Have fun reading!
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to send a note in your child’s homework folder, email me or call me at school and I will do my best to get right back to you with a response. Thank you so much for your help and support with homework and reading calendars.
